Hybrid Solar Systems

A hybrid solar system is a superior solution for reducing energy costs with an uninterrupted power supply.

Solar and Batteries Direct offers high-quality products and outstanding services for the design and installation of hybrid solar systems in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast. These systems combine the benefits of on-grid and off-grid solar power for the ultimate in clean, renewable, reliable, and affordable electricity.

What is a Hybrid Solar System?

A hybrid solar system combines on-grid solar with off-grid solar to power homes, businesses, and other entities with the unlimited energy of the sun, with both solar inverters and batteries interacting with the electricity grid.

A hybrid solar system generates power in the same way a more traditional on-grid solar system does, but it uses hybrid inverters and solar batteries which store the energy generated by the solar panels for later use. This feature enables hybrid systems to provide a backup power supply during blackouts, at night-time, and during periods of lower solar generation.

There are several types of hybrid solar system:

Basic hybrid inverter – the most economical option, works like a grid-feed inverter and also enables solar battery storage. Does not operate in blackout conditions and has no backup power.

Basic hybrid inverter – the most economical option, works like a grid-feed inverter and also enables solar battery storage. Does not operate in blackout conditions and has no backup power.
Advanced AC-coupled system – hybrid or off-grid; has a powerful battery to meet the demands of continuous high loads and is ideal for high-level power management applications.

How it Works

A hybrid solar system is also referred to as a “battery-ready” system. Instead of using a solar inverter to convert DC electricity from solar panels to AC power for use within the home or other property, the system uses a modern hybrid inverter with the connection and battery charger built into one unit.

Storage of solar energy is similar to that of an off-grid system, however, the required battery capacity is far lower and generally needs to cover peak consumption for no more than 8 hours. (Typical off-grid systems must store energy to be able to meet power needs of at least 3 days).

Is Hybrid Solar Right for Me?

Hybrid solar is an ideal solution for residential solar customers. If you wish to enjoy the utmost benefits from the solar power your panel system generates, a hybrid system may be right for you.

Solar feed-in tariffs (money or credit applied to your electricity bill or paid to you when you feed solar energy back into the grid) are lower than they used to be and, as such, traditional feed-in systems are not as appealing for people who are not at home during the day to get the most out of their solar system.

A hybrid system enables you to store the energy your panels generate during the sunlit hours of the day for use after dark – which is when most workers are at home and have the highest power needs. It’s also the period when grid-based electricity costs are at their peak.

For most commercial entities that operate during daylight hours only, the common grid-feed solar system remains the most economical and appropriate choice of solar system.
